My Baby Can Read

My baby can read and he started reading when he was only two years old thanks to the Your Baby Can Read DVD program. We got the program as a gift from my dad and we started using it when our son was about nine months old. We would put him in front of the television and would give him a healthy snack to eat while he watched it. The DVD’s each take about twenty minutes to watch. They allow me to have time to do the dishes or clean the kitchen while keeping an eye on him in the room next to me. He becomes mesmerized by the program. He loves the songs they sing and the kids in the videos. I watch the DVD’s with him too and it gives us a chance to practice the nursery rhymes that they sing.

After he had watched all of the DVD’s, I would read books to him to reinforce what he was learning. He loved to read the books and would point out everything he saw – most of which were things that were covered in the Your Baby Can Read program. I was so proud to be able to say that my baby could read because his friends were not nearly as close to reading as he was. I feel as though it is going to give him an advantage over the other kids in his class when he enters Kindergarten. Even if it doesn’t, it still is helping him to prepare for learning. He learned numbers and colors and many different common household items by watching the DVD’s. And he only watched them once a day or sometimes every other day. The program says to have your child sit and watch each DVD twice a day, every day, for a month. I thought that these instructions were a little bit overwhelming, so I just played the DVD for him once a day and soon he started to ask to watch it.

Some parents think that the program is not good for kids, but I disagree. I think that any program like this one which is educational and fun for the kids is a good thing. It exposes them to so many things – colors and numbers and words and verbs – why wouldn’t it be a good thing? It is basically the same thing as Sesame Street but without the dumb monster costumes and silly voices. And my son liked it just as much if not more than Sesame Street. Sometimes when he watches Sesame Street he loses interest in the show and I end up turning it off. But with the Your Baby Can Read program, he would sit still and watch the entire show and not get bored. It was his fun activity for the day and I am a little sad that he is done watching them. But the good thing is, that now he knows how to read!

If you are considering buying this program, I say – do it. It totally is an investment worth making in your child’s future. Don’t listen to those other parents who think it is stupid. It really isn’t. And those parents that are dissing it are probably doing so because their kid can’t read. But my kid can read and it’s because I bought these DVD’s and also because I read to him non-stop. We also did baby sign language with him which we feel increased his vocabulary tremendously. He loved to sign, but once he got the words down, he dropped the signing. So in conclusion, I recommend using baby sign language, Your Baby Can Read and reading lots and lots of books to your baby. Pretty soon you’ll be saying, “My baby can read!”.

Great Hub!! This new generation is smarter and if someone like Robert T came out with this idea of teaching babies to read, then he's a genius!!

Both my 34mo & 13mo love the DVDs and follow them.

In-fact, our relatives were rather surprised when my eldest read 'elephant' & 'chimpanzee' off another storybook casually in their presence! She can even spell her own name!!!

I am very happy with my investment!

Thanks cloudy_cool! I am glad you liked the article. Isn't it amazing how quickly kids learn? It's so fun to see them love to read.
