Baby Sleep Techniques

The best baby sleep techniques are the ones that work. I have tried many methods and can say that there are just a few that are worth discussing. First of all, you should always dress your baby in pajamas and a diaper. The diaper is key so that they won’t make a mess everywhere. The best baby pajamas are the ones that look like a gown and have a hole at the bottom with elastic. The hole at the bottom is key because it allows you to easily change the baby’s diaper in the middle of the night without having to deal with snaps that are on most baby clothes. If I were you I would buy a ton of these sleep gowns so that you will always have a clean one on hand. When my baby was born we had tons of clothes, but nothing in terms of baby pajamas. So my mom ran out and bought twelve of the baby sleep gowns and it was a life saver.

Once your baby is in a clean diaper (don’t forget the diaper cream!) and his or her baby sleep gown, then you are ready to put the baby to bed. One thing that many experts recommend is to give your baby a pacifier when you put them to sleep. They say that it lowers the risk of the baby dying of SIDS or sudden infant death syndrome. That was enough to make me want to use it with our son. So we started using it with him from the beginning. So grab your pacifier and head up to the baby’s nursery since you will want to put the baby to sleep in his or her crib. This ensures that you will be able to get a good night’s sleep too. And a well-rested parent is a good parent.

At this point your baby should have a diaper on, a baby sleep gown and a pacifier in the mouth. The next step is to swaddle your baby snugly. I recommend the miracle blanket to swaddle your baby. The first time that I saw the miracle blanket being demonstrated I will admit, I thought it looked like the person was wrapping their baby up in a straight jacket. But then I saw what it did to the baby and I was convinced I needed to buy one and try it with my baby. It totally worked! At first he resisted, but after he was all wrapped up, he loved it! And just as the title says, it was a miracle that he slept in it and slept through the night. Be sure to have your baby monitor turned on in case the little one wakes up during the night. If the baby does wake up during the night because they need a diaper change, do not turn on the lights – try to just use a night light that is dim so that the baby doesn’t wake up too much. Try not to talk to your baby or touch the baby any more than you have to in order to do the diaper change. This way the baby will not think that it is playtime, the baby will know that he needs to go back to sleep after getting a clean diaper.

To sum it all up, the way to get your baby to sleep through the night is by making sure they have a clean diaper, pacifier, sleep gown and miracle blanket. The last thing I will suggest is some form of white noise such as a loud fan or a white noise machine. This replicates the sounds the baby heard in the womb and can calm a baby to sleep. Good luck!
